Walking for Your Health @ Central

Join renowned physician and author Michael Fine, M.D. and noted hiking enthusiast and journalist John Kostrzewa for a look at what makes walking so much fun and so good for our bodies. Find out the best trails for differing abilities, how to stay safe, and why walking has such a positive impact on cardiovascular, bone, and mental health.

Michael Fine, M.D
. has been an advocate for communities, healthcare reform, and the care of under-served populations worldwide for 40 years. Dr. Fine is a former Director of the Rhode Island Department of Health, former Medical Program Director at the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, and founder and Managing Director of HealthAccessRI. He currently serves as the chief health strategist for the city of Central Falls, RI, and has published several fiction and nonfiction books, including his most recent collection, Rhode Island Stories. John Kostrzewa worked for 42 years in the newspaper industry, including the last 29 at The Providence Journal as a business reporter, columnist, business editor, and assistant managing editor. He retired from the Journal in 2017 and spent the next three years as an adjunct professor at Bryant University. During the pandemic, he launched “Walking Rhode Island,” a weekly column online and in the Sunday newspaper about hiking in The Ocean State. A College of the Holy Cross graduate, Kostrzewa resides in Cranston with his wife Carol.
