This month the Nonfiction Book Group will read and discuss The Mapmaker's Wife: A True Tale of Love, Murder, and Survival in the Amazon by Robert Whitaker.

A group of 18th-century French scientists sets off on an expedition to South America to measure the shape of the earth. One of the explorers becomes stranded in the jungle on the opposite end of the Amazon River from his Peruvian wife. This true story kept Europe spellbound as it was unfolding.
