Learn About Native Plants with Master Gardener Alan Newton @ William Hall

Alan Newton, URI Master Gardener Class of 2020, will provide a presentation on “Why Native Plants: One Thing That Will Truly Make A Difference.” The presentation will discuss why native plants are so important, what is happening to native habitats, and what we can do to preserve and repair the damage caused by human activity over the centuries.

After 40 years as a minister and educator, Alan Newton enrolled in the URI Master Gardener Program. Having a lifelong interest in gardening, he decided that he would like to share knowledge about gardening with others. He graduated in the class of 2020 and was the 2020 Rookie of the Year. He volunteers to present educational workshops and answer questions on the Gardening and Environmental Hotline and is Chairperson of the Leadership Development Committee. Alan also manages the Comprehensive Community Action Program (CCAP) Gardens in Cranston.
